Danfoss VLT 8125 AQUA Series Variable Frequency Drive
A Nebraska farmer invited Danfoss to retrofit his existing center-pivot irrigation system. Using the Danfoss VLT 8125 AQUA Series VFD in combination with a Danfoss pressure transmitter, the farmer saved tremendous amounts of energy, with an ROI payback period of less than two years based solely on energy conservation.
Controlling the system pressure using a VFD allowed the pump in his large pivot irrigation systems to slow down at lower elevations, reducing the water flow and lowering the energy demand. Use of a VFD in combination with a pressure transmitter controls the speed of the pump based on pressure changes in the system, resulting in constant pressure and more uniform distribution. More uniform distribution of water on crops reduces maintenance on the irrigation equipment because of the “soft-starting” feature. Its easy adaptability, increased water conservation, and the addition of a submersible pressure transmitter to monitor well depth allows farmers to be good stewards of natural resources while also saving money.
